ἀνάπνευσισ. On the Homeric Simile in The Iliad

Abstract
After a summary journey through the Iliad following its extended similes, a hypothesis is proposed about the formal structure of these figures that highlights the periodic and anaphoric aspects in their composition. It is shown that these formal aspects guide the composition of poetic structures that are vaster than long similes, indicating ways of knotting the similes with the narrative of the poem that engage a reflection on its functioning and on language itself.
