For a complete analysis about our topic, we will attend the dark situation of the empire, the weaknesses of different emperors, the political fragmentation of italian peninsula, and mostly, encounters and hostilities between pontiffs and emperors. We will focus in the analysis of the sources at our disposal, wich on our opinion demonstrate that popes acted as imperial officials in political sphere.
