Abstract

All along the 19th century Alaxandria becomes an important portin the Mediterranean from where cotton was sent to Europe and in strategiccenter for the communications with Asia and Pacific through Suez, that wasspecially important for the Spaniards as made the passage to the Philippinesfaster. The Spanish observers will give notices of the changes in a city that keptrest of its past marked by the presence of Alexander, Cleopatra, Caesar, MarcusAntonius and Octavius.
