New perspectives on the study of contact-induced change: towards a dynamic model of language contact

This paper proposes a more dynamic model of contact-induced change. Special emphasis is placed on two types of changes induced by contact (direct and indirect). These changes are illustrated with case studies of Spanish in contact with indigenous languages in Latin America.
